Smallholder farm at golden hour with farmers walking through cashew trees

Putting farmers
first.

We're the only nut company majority-owned by the smallholders who grow our food. Every jar, pouch and bottle sends value back to the hands that harvested it.

The Liberation difference

Beyond Fairtrade.
True ownership.

We don't just buy fairtrade products from smallholder farmers, they own the majority of our business. The cooperatives shape our business and share in its success.

Smallholder co-operatives hold the majority share of Liberation, not a foundation, not a charity arm.

Across 22 cooperatives in Malawi, India, Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Founded in 2007 on a single principle: producers should own the brand that sells their crops.

Every nut is independently certified Fairtrade and traceable back to a named cooperative.

How we work

Questions, answered.

Everything buyers, journalists and curious eaters most often ask us about the brand, the farmers, and the model.

  • Our farmer co-operatives hold the majority share of the business. They vote on strategy, see the books, and receive a direct slice of every profitable year, it's true ownership, not lip-service.

  • Every nut we source is certified Fairtrade, meaning guaranteed minimum prices and a community premium. We go further, we always work with smallholder farmers organised in democratic farmer cooperatives or associations. Both as members of their organisations and Liberation, this ensures that maximum value goes to them and they can actively participate in the value chain.

  • Across 22 cooperatives in Malawi, India, Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Kerala. We source fresh in-season nuts directly from smallholder farming cooperatives.

  • We work with hundreds of retailers across the UK and EU, from independents to national supermarkets. Visit our Trade page to request a price list, sample box and full impact deck — or ask about private label.

  • 100% vegan, always. Many of our ranges are also certified organic, look for the badge on each product page in the shop.
